Warning--Emergency Department visits for COVID are surging once again, approaching last winter's peak. I think the new variant-updated COVID vaccine should be available to everyone, instead of restricting it like RFK Jr has. And we should restart the conversation around air

Alas, I'm positive that government won't answer the question below so I will just make a small point. We need more physicians in AB. In fact from comparative OECD data we know that Canada has around 240 MD's per 100,000 population. /1

A quick thread. This is important information for the health system to have. To generalize though, there are many types of information and key metrics that we should be evaluating in real time to improve system performance. This one is not controversial. /1

Great article! There is always a trade off between the rights of the individual and group rights. Where we place the cutoff lies on a spectrum. A more centrist view, emphasizing group rights, has always made sense to me. It is one of the reasons life expectancy in Canada > US.

ZERO COORDINATION and NO OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT for the entire system. If well connected HC leaders have no idea what it all means, or how to navigate any of it, how do you think all other HCWs are feeling? Or the Patients?!!! Our HC system is in serious trouble... so are Pts!

Great thread. I wish more people would read and understand this. And then, I'd like more people to embrace the Canadian ethos of group protections/safety for all.

I like this idea very much. We need choice, not straight jackets, in the ways MD's practice. Most MD students are now trained by people on a salary - they are attuned to this in ways many of us weren't. cbc.ca/news/health/ci…

A question for my fellow Albertans: did our gaslighting Premier "fix healthcare in 90 days" as promised Oct 20th, 2022, or did she and her predecessor break an already weak system? You know she'll say one thing, but what do the stats (and anecdotes) say? #ableg

It's funny how this will play out. Recruiting high powered professionals to AB is complicated. Having a world recognized educational system for these people's children is an incredible advantage. Losing it will have negative spin offs. But Goa has not thought this through.

A great statement by the AMA on our measles outbreak. Please share this widely. I only wish our government controlled public health system were allowed to do their job and get this under control. We are paying an exorbitant price for our gov's failures.

Important to read. Important to get the shot. Please do this. It is likely that our h/c system viability depends upon enough of us doing this. I'm going to. Opinion: Why you should get your annual flu shot edmontonjournal.com/opinion/column… via Edmonton Journal

There is a huge problem with this that many of us recognize. A short thread. We call it the incidentaloma issue. Let me use an example that has actually happened. Imagine you believe young adults should be screened for abdominal cancer to 'protect' their loved ones. /1

Important thread here. I'd emphasize that smart people have studied how best to provide healthcare and that we should listen to them rather than everyone trying out their pet theory. It will cost us less in the long run.
