VEuPathDB data will remain available beyond the day NIAID meant it to go dark, but no new data will be brought in. Get involved with @VEuPathDB in the conversation about the future of shared data.

Sam Rund VEuPathDB VectorBase Vectors appear to be forgotten in this otherwise excellent commentary. VectorBase, a BRC that houses vector data, merged with @EuPathDB 8 years ago to form @VEuPathDB. Vectors are the key component in vector-borne diseases, both for disease transmission and control.

The scale of loss caused by defunding VEuPathDB will be fully realized in the coming months. Not being entirely hyperbolic when I compare this to arson in the library of Alexandria. Our collective expertise in the Global health community resides here, but in danger of being lost

Imagine if you woke up this morning and found that the NIH-funded database that holds all of the data that you and thousands of other scientists around the world consult every day was turned off. Gone. Despite many efforts by a community of scientists to lobby NIH Dr. Monica M. Bertagnolli

VEuPathDB coming back online is terrific. BUT for now it is only a temporary reprieve that brings back a static version. Please visit VEuPathDB.org to stay informed on what's happening and take the anonymous survey there to help inform discussion about the future

Congratulations to Artur Scherf for the award of Prix Duquesne. Thankful to have had Artur as my PhD supervisor—he mastered the fine art of giving enough freedom to grow, but not enough to burn the lab down. 🔬🦠 INSTITUT PASTEUR parasitesrule

Not a great decision by NIH NIAID News IMO The piece doesn't mention that the database also includes FungiDB which covers many human pathogens. Not clear whether NIAID will replace this resource with anything. science.org/content/articl…

Drug Monkey The databases are a repository for stuff that doesn't have somewhere to deposit like phenotypic screens and the dozens of expression datasets. They made it competitive and VEuPathDB scored 20 but wasn't funded.

Drug Monkey VEuPathDB And the new databases aren't up and weren't funded to provide the same utility to end users. The PO said at a conference that their audience aren't the end users. It used to be a contract, so they had transition plans to hand over the resource and it was ignored.
