Severe weather, rain every day, high winds, and at least 5 separate days with hail damage since first of May. It's hard to watch and it's getting really old.

NEMATODE MONDAY: Root-knot nematode symptoms (galls/knots) on roots of tomato plants. The amount of galling can vary with population density, Meloidogyne species involved, and the host. Large numbers of nematodes penetrating roots in close proximity can result in larger galls.

Farmers worldwide struggle with significant crop losses in fruits and vegetables due to nematodes. These pests penetrate the roots, reproduce, and cause root galling, depriving the plants of vital water and nutrients, resulting in poor growth and economic losses for farmers.

Another case we don’t have an answer! This time happens on a melon I bought from store. My son immediately said he won’t eat it although I have told him the flesh is totally fine. I can imagine how frustrated farmers are if their load were rejected because of the rind necrosis.

Feel so good to reconnect with the nematode community! Miss Dr. Donald Dickson, my first connection to watermelon and Extension back to go with Dr. Dickson to see a field with RKN damage! Got to talk to many nematode researchers I admired! See you next year! Society of Nematologists

Popular inquiry this week: tomatoes that are pretty on the outside and brown inside. Prolonged extremely wet, overcast, humid, hot weather limits the plant's ability to move water through transpiration, which means calcium can't reach the fruit. Internal blossom end rot. #MSUext
