Sad to me to see this common argument: Left should oppose cutting wasteful spending when Right is in power, as savings would then be spent on tax cuts.

"It's not about X - It's about Y" is much more of an LLM signature than the word "delve". The phrasing itself is aesthetically grating. Why are you in a rush to preemptively rebut the worst strawman of your argument before you've even made your argument?

3 paths to a Europe that can afford a military: 1. Cut social spending 2. Boost productivity per hour 3. Work more hours #2 is hard to quickly put into practice, but #1 and #3 are doable quickly by cutting G and T modestly, and halfway liberalizing the labor market.

I have a bunch of student debt - interest payments keep rising. But I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to punt on Bitcoin. That way, if it goes up, all my debt will be repaid. If it goes down … I would have atleast established a bitcoin reserve.

I hope everyone who rightly criticizes tariffs will be enraged with me when the dems raise marginal income tax rates "But tariffs hurt the poor!" Not exactly. The consumption side is regressive but on-shoring benefits the working class too. You should oppose both

Elon Musk Liv Boeree Americans overwhelmingly favor improving conditions for farm animals, and technology holds the key to doing this while keeping food affordable and abundant. E.g. in-ovo sexing can eliminate the need to kill 6b chicks/ yr in the egg industry!

Tit for tat works when punishment follows defection but cooperation remains the baseline. The anti woke backlash correctly identified the need to punish the free riders of liberalism. But MAGA views cooperation itself as a sign of weakness and thus worthy of exploitation.

Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry This guy thinks no economist has an explanation for this novel rejoinder he conjured up. You want a low tax rate on a broad tax base in a way that doesn’t distort relative prices hence consumption taxes and not tariffs

The United States is unable to reliably detect new pandemics, natural or engineered. We could change this by embracing more advanced detection technologies. In my contribution to the Techno-Industrial Policy Playbook I lay out how this would look like in practice.

Matthew Yglesias I say we limit such immortal foundations too much, by forcing them to spend a % of their income so they don't grow their capital. Let them grow!

A complete disgrace that after 18 months of kidnapping and torture, he will be dragged around as a trophy in the country that facilitated his abduction in the first place.

Good piece here on the awful Lucy Connolly case. Really perverse that the Human Rights Act and European Convention on Human Rights bind the state so much on matters like immigration, but provide so little protection for freedom of speech. edwest.co.uk/p/the-troublin…

Once upon a time, writing a grammatically correct coherent paragraph was a credible signal - of both communication skills and effort; much like a cover letter tailored to a job used to be a credible signal of your interest in the job. optimaloutliers.com/p/why-is-linke…
