The USIBWC provides the following update on Tijuana River flows: Mexican pump station PBCILA has returned to operation with two pumps currently online. 1/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
PBCILA is diverting approximately 20 million gallons per day (MGD) from the Tijuana River to Mexican pump station PB1. 2/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
These untreated flows are then pumped to San Antonio de los Buenos for discharge into the ocean about 6 miles south of Tijuana. 3/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
Under current PBCILA operation, we expect flows in the Tijuana River to average around 25 MGD, a significant decrease from previous average of around 45 MGD. 4/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
This should also result in fewer odor complaints. 5/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
As infrastructure in Mexico is further upgraded and repaired and capacity restored, we expect additional flows will be diverted from the Tijuana River and transboundary flows further reduced. 6/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
We continue to work with Mexico to identify and eliminate the sources of transboundary flows in the Tijuana River. 7/7 Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
The USIBWC reports the following on Tijuana River flows: A wastewater pipeline leak in Mexico was detected late last night downstream of Mexican pump station PB1. 1/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
In response, Mexican pump stations PBCILA and PB1 have been taken offline and diversion of flows from the Tijuana River have discontinued. 2/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
An investigation of the leak is in progress. 3/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
We hope the leak source can be identified quickly and either repaired or bypassed so that PBCILA can be restarted and diversion of flows from the Tijuana River can continue. 4/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
Flow in the river is currently 45 million gallons per day (MGD), compared to 11 MGD same time yesterday. 5/ Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
We are in communication with our Mexican counterparts on the status of restoring the pump stations. 6/6 Imperial Beach SanDiegoCounty California Water Boards City of San Diego CILA MEXICO
