What does it mean when you plant 150 pounds of winter rye? This commentary started as a conversation in the field at Kingman Farm and turned into a nice little paper. Artwork from Agroecology Lab family members Syd Smith and Peter Warren. UNH Ag Research
Great to collaborate with Penn State John Tooker Elizabeth Rowen Kirsten Pearsons on this research showing that biological control from arthropods, supported by cover crops, was more effective at reducing pest density than insecticides. doi.org/10.1002/eap.25… Photo: Elizabeth Rowen
Our twitter feed may have been idle for the last couple years, but we weren't! We wrapped up experiments looking at the use of cover crops with tarps for organic no-till vegetables. UNH Ag Research SARE Program
Can annual forages complement perennials during slow periods? We tested 14 species in 3 experiments for their productivity and forage quality. UNH Ag Research summer annuals doi.org/10.1002/cft2.2… fall annuals doi.org/10.1002/cft2.2… winter annuals doi.org/10.1002/cft2.2…
We mostly study plants. It's great to team up with the dairy researchers to see how plants can be optimized as forages. There are tradeoffs between quality and productivity! UNH Ag Research
We want agriculture to do right by nature. Nice to see our research legume plots at Kingman Farm supporting some winged friends! UNH Ag Research
NHAES scientists have finished a multi-year study to identify the best forage crops to grow during three low-growth times of year. Read more: bit.ly/3ETg8hm UNH Agroecology Lab NIFA Agriculture is America
