"Democratizing" AI is like "democratizing" a tank. Sure, we can make it open-source; or turn it into an art exhibit; or even let civilians become tank commanders. But a tank is still a tank. And AI is still AI: a Cold War-era techno-ideology of prediction & productivity growth.

Finally, some years of work and engagement have materialised in this encyclopedia of #STS. Many thanks to the + 90 authors who contributed! And what a pleasure it has been to go on that adventure with Alan Irwin - thanks for being such a great colleague, conspirator and friend!

It is a wonderful feeling for an editor to see the encyclopedia out in the world. From my department STSvienna Universität Wien see contributions by Max Fochler on valuation, Katja Mayer on big data and AI, Nina Klimburg-Witjes on outer space and myself on time in research. Enjoy the reading.
