On Wednesday and Thursday UHMC hosted the University of Hawaii Board of Regents. Highlights included a visit to Haleakalā, a reception to celebrate our partnership with Veterans Administration and of course their regular meeting. Mahalo to the UH BOR for their service!

Congratulations to the graduates of our first ever Hawaiian Electric / Maui College Plant Operator internship program. Ten students completed the 8 week intensive training program gaining experience in all the plant jobs at the Ma ‘alaea Power Plant.

Lei’s Family Class Act Restaurant began service today under the tutelage of Chef Gary. Students did an amazing job serving and preparing the fabulous meal.

Busy week at Maui College. On Tuesday we hosted the State Senate Ways and Means Committee, on Wednesday all the Community College Chancellor’s had their monthly meeting on campus, and on Friday we hosted a youth leadership conference.

Lono i ka Makahiki! We know it's makahiki season when we host the Maui Hawaiian Immersion students at UH Maui College for their Makahiki festival. One thousand students strong - running, pulling, wrestling, and yelling to support their team. Imua a loa'a ka lei o ka lanakila!

Thanks to the support of Hawaii Community Foundation, the college was able to build 50 sheds and donate it to Lahaina fire victims; at the same time training 700 maui residents in carpentry skills. Here is the 50th shed heading to Lahaina.

Congratulations to the winners of the Maui College Lip Sync contest - sponsored by the UHMC Academic Senate. In first place Paul Thornton and Trent Neemi - the Devil Went Down to Georgia. Happy Aloha Friday!
