NEAR registry of ED intubations from 2002 to 2012. 1) >85% were RSI 2) Etomidate and Succ most common but Roc rapidly increased. 3) VL increased over 10 years from <1% to 39% 5) FPS overall was 83% but increasing. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25533140/

Jeff Jarvis I like the changes seen. I hope the progress in ED as well as EMS continues. Strong training is needed when switching DL to VL though. But, I think the new standard, especially for EMS should be VL with recording. It allows for review and refinement of practicioners skills.

If we’d all grown up being trained to use HA-VL & someone just invented the Mac blade, would anyone bother to learn using it? I doubt it. If you really want to maximise 1st pass success, learn HA-VL. It’s just better.
