This is huge. These are undergrads tackling difficult topics as part of an international community of museums & galleries worldwide. They creatively engaged a bead found on our campus that an enslaved person may have owned. This is the 2nd time UA was featured via my classes.

Over the summer, Alabama Museum of Natural History staff rediscovered UA Museums' marsupial history from 1990 through 1992 in a filing cabinet in the basement of Smith Hall. 🧵: 1/4

What we found were illustrations by Rachel Dobson of possum characters created for the Alabama Natural History Society, our previous museum membership program. 🧵: 2/4

A Naming Contest for one of the characters was held in the pages of 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 magazine with 127 people from 45 different cities submitting nearly 200 names. 🧵: 3/4

This year's Alabama Museum of Natural History #NationalFossilDay event will be a 🦖dinosaur doubleheader🦖 on November 2, 2024. First up will be a free screening of "Why Dinosaurs?". This will be followed by a tabling event featuring dinosaur fossils discovered in Alabama, including AUMNH's dinosaur egg!
