How many people are interested in best communication practices for Game Studios? All Studios have communication bottlenecks, and I've successfully solved several major communication bottlenecks at each studio I've been at.

In one of my videos, I talked about starting a Discord channel but I'm not doing that. From the discord channels I've seen, they can't be maintained at a large scale. People join Discords for more personalized feedback. The glaring problem: mentors don't have enough time.

Getting into the Game Industry is just the start. Planning your trajectory once you're in is way more important. You can easily allow the industry to push you into a role that you hate.

3 Key Components To An Engaging Game: 🧲1. Core Gameplay loop ATTRACTS players. 🌎2. Content makes players STAY interested. 📈3. Progression Systems makes players INVEST. If players DO NOT have Content or Progression to compliment the Core Gameplay Loop -- THEY WILL GET BORED.

🗡Combat Design: Hits-To-Kill When designing combat for video games, the damage you deal is important, but Hits-To-Kill is king 👑. Enemy has 100 HP. Player deals 40 dmg per attack. It takes 3 Hits to kill enemy. Player dmg is upgraded to do 45 dmg. Enemy still takes 3 Hits.

Combat Design: Animation Cancelling Ever play a video game and the player feels "sticky" or unresponsive? Most games don't allow you to cancel the animation after its climax has been passed. Player shouldn't have to wait for the 8 ending frames before using another action.

🗡Combat Design: Enemy reactions are 50% of what makes combat feel great. When crafting your game, you can make your player badass as possible... But if enemies don't have a badass reaction, the combat will feel flat and lifeless. Don't sleep on your enemy reactions.

You're not looking for a company to finally "Accept you." You're looking for a company that will make you say, "I'm that person that can solve your problem. You'd be stupid not to hire me." The 1st mentality is desperate. 2nd mentality is confident.

If you're not getting traction with the jobs you're applying for... 🤔 Are you using the right bait? You can't expect traction with A if your PPR (Profile, Portfolio, Resume) is using bait to attract Z. It is especially true for individuals trying to transfer to a new industry

If someone gives you a compliment, believe them, and say thank you. You have so many people telling you how great they think you are, and you just deny their compliment. Learn to accept compliments and stop letting modern culture make you feel like you don't deserve praise.

Combat Design is not a specialization in the traditional sense. You're required to be knowledgeable in: Enemy Design, Systems Design, Level Design, Narrative Design, Animation Pipeline, Game feel, Player Feedback, SFX, VFX. That's why it's difficult to become a Combat Designer.
