A happy birthday to Roy Lichtenstein <3 Tyler and Lichtenstein began working together in 1969 at the print workshop Gemini GEL, Los Angeles, and they would continue to work together until 1994. ‘Lamp’ a woodcut print from 1981 made on Okawara paper is one of our favourites!

A colour trial proof (CTP) is created before the colours for an edition have been determined, showing the artist’s process. Helen Frankenthaler would continue to refine works over long periods. These CTPs for ‘Day one’ were created in 1980, the final print was published in 1987.

#Lichtenstein kept an archive of comics to make his work. Painting the nude in the mid-90s, he would alter comic strip panels to ‘undress’ the comic characters. This photo shows the paintings ‘Blue nude’, ‘Nude with street scene’ and ‘Nude with yellow beach bag’ under development

The Tyler studios were as full of antics as they were artmaking. In 1978, apart from riding on the front of a tractor driven by Kenneth Tyler, Kenneth Noland was working on his Handmade Paper project, producing geometric works of circles and stripes. #kennethnoland #kennethtyler
