Really proud of our Advanced Higher Chemistry learners who took a step out or their comfort zones and entered the #chemistryolympiad with the Royal Society of Chemistry. It was a challenge but delighted to say theily achieved 1 bronze award and 2 silver awards. Well done team! 🥳🥳🥳

Calculating the purity of marble chips by back titration going fantastically well for a certain AH Chem lab group that will remain nameless!

Miss K's S3 class enjoyed an impromptu demo of increasing temperature causing an increase in reaction speed. The end of the glow stick in the hot water glowed far brighter...and of course we had to test every colour!

I think S3 Chemists enjoyed learning that adding a catalyst to hydrogen peroxide speeds up its breakdown into oxygen and water. We could add more hydrogen peroxide, and the catalyst kept working, which proves it's reusable. The soundtrack was pretty good too 👍

Well done to this group for winning a STEM challenge. Given one piece of A4 paper, one pair of scissors, and one roll of tape to try and make the longest paper chain in 20 minutes. Very impressive work!

Well done to today's STEM challenge winners who managed to use their ingenuity (our new word for the day) to cut a hole big enough to step through into a single sheet of A4 paper.

Some fantastic results here from Higher Chemists investigating how changes to concentration can change the position of equilibrium. I love colourful chemistry!

Sharing photos from our #ChemistryWeek2024 event today where learners found out about the challenges of generating clean hydrogen for use as a #renewable and clean fuel. Thanks to the Royal Society of Chemistry for the funding! #learningforsustainability #dyw

Another fab day learning about how chemistry improves lives for #ChemistryWeek2024. We found out how dangerous microplastics are and how chemists at #StrathclydeUniversity are developing mini 'pacman' robots to round them up and break them down. #DYW

A busy week for the #chemists! Some dedicated S3 learners were introduced ethical engineering at University of Strathclyde today. Looking forward to finding out what them and their mentors will find out during the project.🤔

It was pizza and poster day today to celebrate everything we learned about #chemistrycareers during #chemistryweek2024 last week. Looking forward to judging the posters on Friday. #dyw #learningforsustainability #royalsocietyofchemistry

Lots of fun working with our friends Turnbull Chemistry Department to lead on this. We hope our story inspires others and the range of free resources help schools deliver LfS themes and activities.

Today our S3 learners did the classic lemon cell experiment. Our LED did light with the voltage from lemon but connecting them into a battery produced enough voltage to really make it bling! #everydaychemistry #stem #cfe Turnbull Chemistry Department
