Great work by John Hurst and @uclrespiratory on subtyping and disease modelling in #COPD. Machine learning and radiographic biomarker evolution for detecting early COPD in smokers. atsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.116…

It turns out knowing when to stop a study is trickier than it looks! Our amazing field teams in 🇳🇵 🇵🇪 🇺🇬 have worked incredibly hard, and for the first time we have reached our target of 3500 at all sites. We are just verifying the numbers before closing recruitment.. more soon!

Something non-covid with Trishul Siddharthan MD Johns Hopkins Medicine and Center for Global NCD Research and Training Does the high rate and unique risk factors of PRISm in low- and middle-income countries have something to teach us about the physiology of this highly prevalent pattern? bit.ly/2SsQjeG

COPD is difficult to diagnose in LMIC due to absence of spirometry . Our group has developed a simple questionnaire (#COLA) which can help identify COPD for initial treatment and further testing; Congrats #Trishul et al dovepress.com/front_end/cr_d…

Read findings from the #CHAPtrial, just published in #AJRCCM. Thank you GEOHealth Hub and Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) for the opportunity to conduct an RCT of an LPG #cleancookstove intervention and follow year-long environmental exposures and health outcomes. bit.ly/383Zk5W

The bottom line is that the three simple screening tools we assessed -CAPTURE, COLA and LFQ- had similar performance, detecting clinically significant and previously undiagnosed COPD in three diverse LMIC settings. The prevalence of COPD varied by site from 3-18%. Summary 👀🔽
