I led a #CalltoVote event yesterday alongside local officials and state colleagues at the county courthouse. I cannot overstate how essential voting is to the democratic fiber of our country, and I'm committed to doing all I can to keep elections free and fair.

My House Democratic colleagues and I met with Allegheny County officials to discuss the importance of incarcerated individuals being able to vote. The right to vote is a beacon of hope, reminding us that every voice matters and that redemption and civic duty are intertwined.

Our hearts are hurting as we mourn the loss of Rep. Matt Gergely, alongside his family and friends. Matt was a treasured member of our delegation - there to offer support, advice or a quick joke when needed and, of course, always sporting an impeccable choice of footwear.

And who could forget “Flat Gergely,” who showed up in the district when Matt had to be in Harrisburg? Matt fought hard for his community as a state representative, bringing resources back to his district and championing critically important issues.

His legacy will live on through the impact of his work, including his prime-sponsored bills that are now law: Act 6 and Act 57 of 2024. Our thoughts, prayers and all the support we can offer are with his wife, Holly, and their children.
