Trying something new today! Planting a catch crop ahead of potatoes to incorporate into the ridges, to try and fix the millipedes and reduce feeding damage on the potatoes. Will top it up with some Fenugreek seeds at planting. Fed up with, largely ineffective, insecticides.

When rivers flood, the knee-jerk reaction is often to send in the machines to remove silt and vegetation. But time and time again, we have seen that dredging does not prevent flooding - in fact, it can make flooding worse downstream by increasing the speed and volume of water

I heard someone talking on Today about leaving dog hair out for birds to use in their nests *If pets have been treated with certain flea treatments, this could kill the chicks* Now seems a good time to repost this article 👇 Please repost #neonics theguardian.com/environment/20…

Creating bird boxes from an old wooden pallet. You can make 4 to 5 decent bird nesting boxes from these. Upcycle where you can for nature! it's incredibly rewarding and not as hard as you'd imagine!

For #NationalTreeWeek, we're celebrating native trees that are particularly good for pollinators. These species flower earlier in the year, providing nectar & pollen when other food is scarce Find out how to choose & plant pollinator-friendly trees here tinyurl.com/25v3djds

A solitary Holly tree on Muckish mountain today in Donegal ⛰️ 🌳 The holly, growing out of a crack in a rock face, where sheep & deer cannot graze on it The landscape is overgrazed & left no space for natural regeneration of trees A. Biodiversity. Crisis.

Talk of deliberately introducing non-native Mediterranean species into the countryside as a response to climate heating nudged me to shoot this cautionary video about the unmanaged invasion of Iberian Holm Oak into Isle of Wight Undercliff chalk grassland youtu.be/OJ1YF3Gpgp8
