I was doing some maintenance work at microWild a few months back, and my daughters were playing and building a 'bug hotel' (moss, twigs, and a small plank of wood) that has actually been housing a baby newt for the past month. A couple of days ago, they took in a roommate.

Today's Croatian invertebrate encounter (I went out snooping at 6.15am) was this MASSIVE centipede - possibly Scolopendra cingulata (Thanks Collie Ennis 🕷🐸). About 10cm long and feisty. I was not willing to go all Coyote Peterson on this.

Chunky queen wasp out and about in the garden this morning looking for nesting sites. Wasps are hugely beneficial insects to have in your garden. Munching on alsorts of invertebrates who would otherwise make a meal of vegetables and other garden plants.

Spoted this beautiful Segestria senoculata, snake back spider out and about in Dublin city tonight.
Rarely spotted outside of the tubular webs they weave in crevices, it's a real treat to see one out in the open. 🕷
