When we write anything even vaguely academic, we kill ourselves citationing the fuck out of everything, while 18th/19th century dudes were just there publishing five volumes of ‘Here are some Thoughts I had in the Bath’.

James McAvoy talking about how more than 2 whiskies change his demeanour is absolutely me 🤣 “That will make me fight people.”

Every time I hear “they were a product of their time,” to justify racism, I think to this piece by Barbarity vs Civilisation by René Georges Hermann-Paul. Clearly “the time” (1899) had anti-racist sentiment, too. “The era” is no excuse.

“Art makes you see beyond your own limitations and horizons. It’s a system of control to keep people where they are to cut funding to the arts in education” 🎯

Think "place" is not only finding where your work fits, but also thinking about your literal place. For me, one reason why I chose to do my PhD on Black Rural History is I didn't see myself or my family in the literature (feel there's a double-meaning in this tweet) ❤️❤️❤️❤️

One thing that gives me PhD joy is adaption potential (dreams lol) From stumbling on African-American GIs in Kettering to a Rastafarian youth centre in Northampton, "Subnormal" in Wellinboro, + a 🇯🇲 woman moving from S. London to a 1980s village. I'd love to script this! 🥰😂

I will always thank Black Twitter for the phrase, " is this a paid opportunity?" There are many more phrases that Black X has taught me but that one really cuts through the fat. Mi nuh work for free. 😁
