RIP Tom Wilkinson. Everybody will understandably be posting Michael Clayton today, but even as a kid who just wanted to watch some goofy Chan/Tucker hijinx in Rush Hour, I could sense this guy's gravity. Always a distinguished and sharply-defined presence.

"Amazon asked me and the film community to trust them and their public statements about supporting cinemas, and then they turned around and are using Road House to sell plumbing fixtures."

Morning ☕️ It's director John Frankenheimer's birthday and a perfect time to revisit his sinister, sci-fi-inflected masterpiece SECONDS (1966)! This paranoiac symphony of canted camera angles, fragmented editing, & layered sound design is a remarkably risk-taking Hollywood film.

James Cameron on the time he got to hang out with Stanley Kubrick and all Kubrick wanted to talk about was how awesome TRUE LIES is. So good.

Evening viewing recommendation? Don't miss BIRTH ('04), one of Jonathan Glazer's most spellbinding masterpieces, before it leaves the Criterion Channel! Coscripted by Jean-Claude Carrière, it walks a delicate line between melodrama & psychological thriller. bit.ly/42ua1KQ

Oklahoma deserves much better than Gov. Kevin Stitt. He has proven time and time again that he’s an incompetent leader who believes that he always knows best. He fails to be a collaborative leader and only cares when he wins. When 2026 comes, I pray we find a new leader who cares

Few actors work for this long and can say they made at least one masterpiece in each decade. The run from Bonnie & Clyde through Night Moves is unreal, but around the time you'd think about slowing down he was like nah let's do an Eastwood, Scott, Raimi, Nichols, Anderson. RIP.

Imagine cheering on people in power who are actively targeting and harming the hungry, the poor, the sick, the elderly, the veteran, the disabled, the different, and the stranger and still somehow expecting people to believe you follow Jesus.
