June is #GreatOutdoorsMonth, a #celebration that encourages getting outside and exploring our country's natural #beauty! There are many wonderful parks to explore in Virginia that are home to native wildlife. Which parks will you plan to visit this month?

Last #summer we shared some fun facts about Virginia's #shorebirds. But did you know there are a number of #birds living in Virginia's marshes as well? Rail birds nest in both salt and freshwater marshes, favoring habitats with denser vegetation.

July is #WildAboutWildlifeMonth, dedicated to appreciating and protecting the animals around us. Help by cleaning up litter, supporting #conservation efforts, creating spaces for #native species to thrive, and educating others about protecting the wildlife with whom we coexist.

Should I be concerned if I see a fawn by itself? Most of the time, no. If it looks healthy, leave it alone. However, if you see a fawn in distress, call our Helpline at 703-440-0800 for advice. Never chase or capture a fawn without guidance from a #wildlife rehabilitator. #Deer

Mating and #baby season is typically associated with spring, but there are many species in Virginia that are only just starting to think about their next brood or litter. Some of those include black #bears, squirrels, and neotropical #birds!

Spotted lanternflies have been invading #Virginia, but please don’t use glue traps or sticky tape #outside to catch them, since these traps are also deadly to other, innocent #wildlife.
