Last #summer we shared some fun facts about Virginia's #shorebirds. But did you know there are a number of #birds living in Virginia's marshes as well? Rail birds nest in both salt and freshwater marshes, favoring habitats with denser vegetation.

Mating and #baby season is typically associated with spring, but there are many species in Virginia that are only just starting to think about their next brood or litter. Some of those include black #bears, squirrels, and neotropical #birds!

Have you seen a hatchling out of its #nest this #summer? Due to the extreme #heat, displaced hatchlings need help immediately. Call our helpline at 703-440-0800 and if there’s no nest in sight, put the hatchling in a warm, dark box and get it out of the heat. #Birds

Spotted lanternflies have been invading #Virginia, but please don’t use glue traps or sticky tape #outside to catch them, since these traps are also deadly to other, innocent #wildlife.
