Hinds: claim no 2. Our schools are improving: 163,000 more 6 year olds are on track to become fluent readers vs 2012. Reality: many more children pass the phonics test but the proportion passing reading comprehension tests at KS1 or 2 stays the same.

If you want kids to love reading, show them YOU love reading! Talk about books, share books & enjoy books with them – not as something good for them, like vegetables, but as fun! I've seen it work so many times. Just share your love of books, and #literacy will follow.

The children and the teachers are loving their new class books! Michael Morpugo Zana Fraillon @peterbunzl and more! These amazing books have inspired our children to read more by the same authors and as the displays are in the hall have generated great discussions! 😊 📚

If this government wants state schools to be more like independent schools, they could do with funding them better. Latin’s brilliant, but smaller class sizes would be even nicer. And perhaps even, for September, some ventilation?

Ways of solving reading difficulties will legitimately vary from one pupil to another. Objecting to RR almost seems like opposing responding to individual pupils' difficulties in favour of your favoured catch-all teaching 'method'(script??) Hmm.. 2/2
