I really loved how "Let's Make Squares" activity from Sarah Carter turned out today. Lead to conversations about problem-solving strategies, definitions, and proofs. And a lot of vocabulary. Here are 5 and 7 squares. #mtbos #iteachmath

If you have a great idea about teaching but don’t teach full time, a good heuristic to use is to finish your suggestion with ‘and here’s how you can do that and still teach 20 periods a week…’. If you can’t finish that sentence you are likely to be ignored, and rightly so.

How long do the gorgeous fall colors stay around in October in Edmonton? Will the trees still have their canopy next weekend? #Yeg

Math for Love Timothy Gowers @wtgowers I agree Dan, I feel it's intended for exploration. It made me think of one of Jonathan Hall's amazing resources "Average and Range Tiles" #MTBoS #ITeachMath #Maths #STEM mathsbot.com/manipulatives/…

Our departmental problem of the week is about kolam art, in honor of Diwali! I'm still getting the hang of making them but I made a little handout for kids for our version of the rules. Also, here's a short video I'm planning on showing: youtube.com/shorts/MmxCbHC…

Sum up Skeletons. An engaging way to think about number bonds to 10, skip counting and trading in. “Oh, if I trade this 9 I can get what I need to make 10’s so I can skip count.” SilverSprings School

Trying to find some options for part-time university studies and it's getting frustrating. Why is post-secondary education still focused on full-time ed? I can't be the only professional contemplating upgrading/career change. More education options needed for working adults.
