I had the honour and pleasure of travelling to Anzio with John Dennett in 2013, where he served before D-Day in Normandy. Glad to see him still going strong.

Hi James Holland & Al Murray - DKMS.ORG.UK 🇺🇦 just catching up on your Casino episodes. I was surprised to hear the statement France 'had it easy' in . In terms of the Holocaust alone, more than 77,000 French Jews were murdered, in Italy it was over 7,500. Civilian losses on top of this push

The view of Monastery Hill at Monte Cassino from the front line positions on Snakeshead Ridge: that all-seeing-eye of the monastery dominates the landscape still.

In 2011 we made DigWW2 with Dan Snow & followed the work of the Gustav Group in an excavation of a part of the Hitler Line attacked by Canadian units in May 1944. It was amazing to see the archaeology of a very short battle emerge from the soil of the Liri Valley.

Poland’s sacrifice at Monte Cassino: 80 years ago today. It remains for me one of the most impressive battlefield cemeteries in the world.

On the 80th Anniversary of the capture of Monte Cassino and the advance up the Liri Valley, just a few of the many Monte Cassino veterans I’ve had the honour to walk those battlefields with: Richard Hargreaves, Don Carter and John Dray.
