“[W]e recommend that foundations and billionaire philanthropists provide funding in a manner that is less controlling of outcomes and far less prescriptive in how those outcomes are achieved.”

Every word of this. It’s why (as Charles C. W. Cooke suggested) I’ve stopped encouraging young people to change the world and started encouraging them to build their neighborhood/communities. Utah leads the nation in social capital and we have to be intentional to keep it that way.

Growing inequality in America isn't just about money. There's a hug gap in key relationships too, such as marriage. A "haves" and "have nots" divide-- in both assets and social capital--risks becoming permanent, write Chris Bullivant Brad Wilcox deseret.com/family/2024/04…

We conducted a major survey on the state of civic life in America. The most jaw-dropping finding was the rapid decline in social connections among Americans without degrees. Nearly 1/4 have no close friends.

The people who are the least likely to attend religious services weekly are those with a high school diploma or less. The data is pointing to a pretty depressing conclusion - those at the bottom end of the SES spectrum are dropping out of society.
