Donald Trump’s legal team will appeal against the guilty verdict. That will, if allowed, take some months. The maximum sentence is 4 years, but because of his age and background he’s unlikely to see the inside of a jail. But the fact of being found guilty will hurt his support.

Very apt comparison. Ukraine's heroism has extended 1938 into 2.5 years now, buying the West critical time to act. But I'd add that the 1939 invasion of Poland started WW2 because the Russians joined Hitler to conquer Europe. China will join Russia if we allow Ukraine to fall.

It's been a year since Russians killed Victoria Amelina. A Ukrainian writer, poet, my friend and role model. The book she was writing, a collection of testimonies about Russian war crimes in Ukraine, will be published early next year. Please read it, remember Vika, demand justice

Putin's goal is easy to understand -- he wants to subjugate Ukraine because he thinks that's how it has to be. Harder to understand: why so many in the West refuse to understand what Putin wants.
