Trump on RFK Jr: "I'm gonna let him go wild on health. I'm gonna let him go wild on the foods. I'm gonna let him go wild on the medicines."

NEW from SVPP 💉 We provide new evidence that negative views toward to the COVID-19 vaccine may be motivating anti-vaccine legislating across state houses. More below! With: Timothy Callaghan medium.com/@mmotta_86623/…

My book Anti-Scientific Americans shows that the type of anti-intellectual rhetoric we see all too often on the campaign trail has dangerous policy consequences. Today in Scientific American, I argue that stimulating sci. interest can help restore faith in experts. scientificamerican.com/article/we-mus…

I'll be presenting this and some of our other vaccine promotion work (see preprint below) TODAY at #SMDM24 at 4:25pm in the Metcalf Lounge at Boston University. Hope to see you there! osf.io/preprints/soca…

Public health is (quite literally) on the ballot in 2024. Really enjoyed chatting with Public Health Post podcast -- and learning from Rep. Marjorie Decker -- about the health policy consequences of the upcoming election. open.spotify.com/episode/2yOHDo…

The first presidential debate and the subsequent change in the Democratic nominee moved national polling. Every other story seemed politically inconsequential.

🚨Updated WP: We add analyses showing that the "vibe shift" coincided with increased donations to Dems up/down ballot, and provide new data the normative democratic implications of increased electoral enthusiasm. Available here! 👇 osf.io/preprints/soca…

On RFK Jr. and vaccines: DASHA: Do you think banning certain vaccines might be on the table? TRUMP: Well I'm going to talk to him and talk to other people, and I'll make a decision, but he's a very talented guy and has strong views.

Matt Motta (@mattmotta.bsky.social) (@matt_motta) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Because I'm already seeing this point bubble up... RFK Jr wasn't picked to lead HHS in spite of his inexperience and disdain for sci. experts. He was picked *because* of them. Anti-intellectualism is a feature, not a bug, of Trumpism. a.co/d/gUhRkCu

Polis' views are extreme, disguised as moderate. When people choose not to vax. for *non-med.* reasons, they increase the chance that diseases mutate & infect. That's a problem for all of us; esp. those who can't vax. for med reasons. Mandates put the "public" in public health.

Science skeptics often co-opt the *language* of science (e.g., peer-reviewed studies) in order to debunk it. I argue that this Pseudo-Scientific Revolution sews doubt by drawing a distinction between "fake" (credentialed) and "real" (fringe) science. electionanalysis.ws/us/president20…

I talked about my book "Anti-Scientific Americans" with Boston 25 News, and why I'm afraid that attacks on the scientific community may make us less prepared to combat major health, environmental, and other policy challenges. boston25news.com/news/local/kee…

A second Trump administration threatens to take the "public" out of "public health." So many thoughtful reflections here from BUSPH faculty and students. (Opinions are mine -- not necessarily that of my employer). bu.edu/sph/news/artic…
