I saw this last night, it's about love, lack of support & CHC funding. But for me It was seeing someone like mum, ethnically diverse loved ones living with #dementia. Reflecting reality that dementia affects every community regardless of race. That's important to see! #BAME

Confusion in dementia can be triggered by various factors: changes in routine, unfamiliar environments, infections (like UTIs), dehydration, medication side effects, or sensory overload. #DementiaCare #Alzheimers #brainhealth (Image: 3Spirit Training Caroline Bartle)

This week when holding mum's hands she said crystal clear "mum" Me "yes you're my mum" Mum looked perplexed I wondered if maybe she thought me her mum as we do look alike so said "mum always love love love" Cue smiles nods vocal approval #MeetMeWhereIAm #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth

Dementia Who! Ah my pleasure so sorry to hear what you’ve been going through. It’s all too familiar - a lady who used to love the piano sometimes says leave me alone now - because it can feel like a sensory intrusion - we are interrupting their peaceful inner world. It’s all abt softness 1/2

Dementia Who! 2/2 Entering the ‘pearl’ stage means finding a way through the ‘layers of shell’ w quiet sensitivity. You must set your expectations lower & lose the guilt! Enjoying the arts will only happen on a more sensory level rather than at a busy social. (I’m ok btw just juggling hats!) x

This infographic sums up some of the more holistic considerations when supporting a person living with dementia The psychological affects our biochemistry which manifests physically & thro communication which can often be more behavioural, physical, gestural & tonal than verbal

Nicolle Mitchell🏳️‍🌈 Dementia Who! Thank you so much Nicolle 🙏 So sorry, yes it’s a painful grieving process to see a loved one’s light slowly diminish. 💎 I agree Teepa’s gemstones analogies can be a helpful way to recognise those changes. Here’s the ‘Amber’ stage for example & how we might respond & support…

Just listening to Hanif Kureishi on BBC Radio 4 Today this struck a chord "we will all in the end probably end up in the arms of strangers On care the impact of welcoming people to our country & for me highlighting our vulnerability interdependence & need for compassion in communities
