Because of my economic plan, the company Micron announced it'll invest $100 billion over 20 years to build factories to make the memory chips we rely on in our phones. That's 50,000 new jobs. It would be the largest American investment of its kind. Ever.

Our investments in infrastructure, innovation, and manufacturing have created hundreds of thousands good-paying jobs. The last thing we need is to threaten that progress by defaulting on our national debt and wreaking havoc on hardworking Americans.

Eight Americans, including children, were killed in Allen, Texas yesterday – the latest act of gun violence to devastate our nation. Jill and I are praying for their families and those critically injured. We're grateful to the first responders who acted quickly and courageously.

Yesterday, an assailant in tactical gear armed with an AR-15 style assault weapon gunned down innocent people in a shopping mall, and not for the first time. Such an attack is too shocking to be so familiar. We need more action, faster to save lives.

Once again, Congress must send me a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Enacting universal background checks. Requiring safe storage. Ending immunity for gun manufacturers. I will sign it immediately. We need nothing less to keep our streets safe.

Some folks on Capitol Hill want to raise costs on working families to give handouts to the rich. I won't stand for it. I'll keep fighting like hell to lower costs on health care, prescription drugs, and energy bills. Because the economy can't leave our middle class behind.

We're investing in mental health training so first responders can safely and effectively respond to those in crisis and connect them to care. And we're making sure that public safety officers have the support and resources to deal with the stresses of their work.
