NEW ADVISORY 🌀 Here's the latest on #Ian from the WINK Weather Team. Stick with WINK News as your #1 source for tropical updates in Southwest Florida both on-air and online.
This is what 140-160 MPH winds look and sound like. This is Fort Myers across the bridge from Sanibel. There’s a reporter out there. I fear he’s about to get hit by a metal pool sign that has come lose. I’m going to find him and I’ll be back. Don’t go outside. #hurricaneian
The storm surge in Naples is moving in, looks like the Naples Pier live cam is out, about a half hour ago the west end of the pier appeared to be completely under water.
This is Vanderbilt Beach in Naples, basically the first story of any structure is under water. Storm surge sweeping away boats, cars, homes across the lagoon covered, only rooftops can be seen. Ian is devastating SWFL and for reference we’re in Naples. This isn’t the worst of it.
This is Molly, her parents were inside this home when the water started slowing coming in but five minutes later it was waist high. Molly’s 54 year old brother swam to save his parents and got them both to safety. You can see how high the water got on the backside of the home.
TRAVEL ADVISORY:
Motorists traveling to SW FL are encouraged to use I75, SR80, SR60, SR31, or US27 as OPEN roadways:
Avoid using US17 due to multiple closures.
Plz travel safe; many intersections have inoperative traffic signals, pooled water or debris on or near roadways‼️
Hurricane Ian hit River Park Community hard but residents and volunteers are hard at work cleaning up trying to help one another. I asked Vincent Keeys to sum up the community’s spirit in one word. Here’s what he told me:
This is Trinity Community church of Naples. The church has setup at 13th St. N & 5th Ave. N in River Park serving up a hot meal. This afternoon there was BBQ chicken, baked beans, Hot Dogs, chips, water. Right now Little Caesar’s Pizzas are being handed out in the neighborhood.
Courtney Long has lived in Englewood her entire life. She’s been through Hugo, Andrew and Irma, but she’s never seen anything like this. Storm surge from Ian damaged her home and she’s been staying at an Airbnb since. WINK News

.Delta “We love to fly and it shows.” Been sitting John F. Kennedy Airport since 8AM after our red eye was delayed nearly 2 hours out of Vegas. Conveniently our plane arrived at the very gate where we missed our connection home. I did get this nice coloring book though. #KeepClimbing
