UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Tampa is calling this "straight-line winds of 45-50 mph" today in Desoto County. Thoughts?

UPDATE: The NWS in Tampa has modified the straight-line wind report, confirming a (landspout) tornado did occur in Desoto County. Interesting case where it did do minor damage, but it wasn't great enough to make the EF-0 threshold...so no rating. @WINKNews

A area of low pressure may try to develop into the northern Gulf. Environmental conditions appear favorable for slow development if it remains far enough offshore. It has a low 10% of development over the next 7 days. ~ Greg

HIGHER TIDES: Here's a picture today from Port Charlotte, showing a dock submerged. You'll notice in a nearby tide gauge that we've been having higher high tides because of a greater gravitational pull approaching the New Moon on Thursday. @WINKNews

Two separate sites in Tampa, the International Airport and MacDill AFB, are both currently reporting a heat index of 120. Brutal stuff right now. @WINKNews
