One of the foundations of a strong safeguarding culture is enabling and encouraging children to say no to adults where there is a risk of harm. Blind compliance in a culture where the adults are always deemed right is problematic.

In the same vein, when asking children why they feel sad/angry/upset, sometimes they genuinely don’t know, or they do know but are categorically not going to tell you. That’s ok.

I recall a friend in primary school being shouted at and made to stand up in front of us all in class after he said he wasn't patriotic.

You can learn how to pronounce a "difficult-sounding" name. It is less work than you think it is.

The same goes for spelling it.
