One sobering indicator of the slowly metastasizing housing crisis is that problematic "Rent Burden" in the US before WWII was defined as rents over >20% of family income Today, a century later, we define Rent Burden at >30% of income and Severe Rent Burden at >50% of income 😅

I find it funny how articles sometimes in the same exact newspaper will have radically different takes on what causes housing costs to change based on whether the framing is "what's happening in homebuilding these days?" or "this neighborhood is worried about development!"
