Please respect the Common Wasp! Numbers are worryingly low this year. You may be relieved to eat your picnic without being bothered but wasps are invaluable to vegetable growers, hunting invertebrates which may eat crops and pollinating flowers as they eat nectar. We need them!

I have been illustrating insects which can be found buzzing & scuttling around ragwort. This cheerful wildflower sustains an astounding array of different insect species! This is just a tiny selection.

I am delighted how many slow worms are living under the dustbin lid in our tiny city centre garden! I have heard that the name for a group of slow worms is a gloss… so look at our glossy huddle! So pleased that there are enough invertebrates to keep them fed and thriving.

Did u know? Whoever says to you, "take your ivy out of your garden, it's a nuisance plant", have a look at this vid I took yesterday. See how many pollinators & other insects you can see. It's the best eatery & hostelry in town right now. 🌱😊

Ivy flowers are a really importance source of food for an amazing array of insects during early autumn and ivy berries are food for many creatures too. Please think twice before cutting ivy back, as you will be depriving many creatures of food and cover for nesting.
