It rained and it rained and it rained. Piglet told himself that never in all his life, and he was goodness knows HOW old - three, was it, or four? - never had he seen so much rain. Days and days and days. Every day the water got a little higher. ~A.A.Milne #rain #flooding

Pooh was so busy not looking where he was going that he stepped on a piece of the Forest which had been left out by mistake; and he only had time to think to himself: “I’m flying. What Owl does. I wonder how you stop -” when he stopped. BUMP! ~A.A.Milne #FridayFeeling

The story of this meagre £140,000 payment to the widow of the sub-postmaster who walked in front of a bus, taking his own life, just gets worse. The Post Office insisted the money was paid in stages so they could stop payments if she spoke out about the case. I mean ,really?

I'm writing today about kennings in Old English. Essentially these are two word-metaphors that were used instead of concrete nouns, and they are exquisite. A ship was a 'wave-horse', the sea was a 'whale-road', the mind was a 'thought-chamber', and the sun was a 'sky-candle'.

Another sad day for local broadcasting - Global is to end all local and regional shows on Heart, Smooth and Capital brands in England. Across the board, we are witnessing the demise of truly local radio in England.
