Macquarie Island is home to an array of unique plant species including megaherbs such as Pleurophyllum and Stilbocarpa, the endemic and critically endangered Azorella cushion plant, and two endemic orchid species.

Macquarie Island is the only island composed entirely of oceanic crust and rocks from the mantle, and the only place where these rocks are found above sea level. It is this unique #geology that contributes to its inclusion on the #UNESCO World Heritage list. 📷Davis Pt
