I’ve learned there’s only so much you can talk about improving without actually putting the plan in motion. Eventually their patience wears thin and we run out of time.

I’m baffled by the artist who says they’d love to get into acting, but complains about making content in the same breath. As an actor, you don’t have control over the story or script. So as a creative, can’t you make content creation more fulfilling?

Anyone who’s put 10,000 hours in can tell you it’s not enough. I’ve put 10,000 hours into writing, making music, booking shows, DJing, hoops, and making a documentary, and I’m not fully an expert in any of those things. You might have to go the extra mile beyond the extra mile.

There are really 2 simple variables when deciding between a major agency and a boutique agency for an up-and-coming artist. The major agency gives you the leverage of their bigger acts. The boutique gives you more attention and is likely more aggressive in drumming up business.

My team and I have never been in the incoming call business. We eat what we kill and prefer it that way. It’s fair for all parties. I’ve never been interested in a safe salary with a salary cap. Ultimately, that minimizes your earning potential and professional freedom.

I hate when people say “it was just a business decision” so they don’t have to answer for being an asshole. Business is about relationships. Personally, I don’t know how to do it any other way.

Touring is expensive, especially when traveling with 7 people. If you don’t see a city you wished would be on the tour, it’s a reason. Deal wasn’t worth it, venue(s) never responded, or conflict of schedule. “If it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense” - DJ Quik

I’ve been told a lot lately that I’m loyal to a fault. The only way you can be loyal to a fault is if the person you are loyal to is taking advantage of your loyalty. Most who make this claim just want to pull you away for their own gain.

Us independent guys are cut from a different cloth. We don’t wait around for shit. We find ways to make it happen.

It’s counterproductive to fight anyone for power. Instead, just take your powers elsewhere.

The stories of the missions that failed miserably are way more interesting than those that succeeded seamlessly.

Life doesn’t have to be so serious or stressful. When focused on points of contention or misery, just create a simple moment of joy for yourself and someone you care about.
