She’s 18. She got accepted to several universities. She picked Morgan State to study mechanical engineering. She vanished last Monday, June 5th. She’s now missed her prom. She missed her Motivation High School graduation Friday. Her name is Shalayla Porter. 1/2

It's sad to see Asian students being used to gut Affirmative Action. A reminder that the Model Minority Myth is a tool of white supremacy, not a road to acceptance.

Today's decisions from the Supreme Court on Affirmative Action represent a significant setback for Civil Rights in the U.S. and are a cornerstone of the conservative movement's coordinated effort to roll back access to opportunity for systemically marginalized Americans.

I’ll just sit this right here…

Let’s be clear…this ruling only serves to perpetuate racism and, just like the overturning of Roe v. Wade, will greatly harm Black and Brown communities. This court is a public health hazard 🤦🏾‍♀️

Day #1 of #APHA2023 was a success! Had a great time serving on the APHAStudentAssembly Mentoring Panel with some of my fave people (and fellow DrPHers!) Dr. Brittany Marshall, Nandi A. Marshall, DrPH, MPH, CHES, CLC, CDE, and Bryan O. Buckley, DrPH, MPH, MBA! And my student did great on her first poster presentation! More great times to come!
