The Intel 8086 microprocessor was introduced 42 years ago today, so I made a high-res die photo. The 10-kilobit microcode ROM is visible in the lower-right corner. The 8086 started the x86 architecture that still dominates computing. The original IBM PC used the related 8088 chip

Yes this is the #VT132, a #VT100 emulator for the #RC2014 from thehighnibble.com with VGA out and PS/2 keyboard in. The ESP module also does some fun stuff over WiFi - modem emulation? There’s even a speaker for key clicks and bell sounds. #retrocomputing

Wow, 0080004 sized 0.1uF caps, 6.3V rating! Just knowing these exist might be enough to make me think twice before griping about some 0402 rework... Greg, have you laid iron to these? murata.com/en-global/prod…

A Honeywell HAF Zephyr mass flow sensor IC. It has an incredibly thin bridge that spans a chasm etched into the die. The bridge contains a heater and sensor to determine how much heat the surrounding gas is drawing away. This sensor is directional - hence the two bridges.
