Wilson King (not that you're obligated to stick around! but just know that if you did stay, then on the margin you might be displacing someone who would p-hack, and thus you'd be improving science just by staying in it)

I don’t think this is necessarily due to p-hacking, per se. An alternative story is people think you can’t write a JMP with null results, so there’s a lot of selection. “oh, this isn’t significant, let me try a different idea.” I assume it’s really both.

I could be mistaken, but I think I just encountered my first economics working paper with at least some references generated by an LLM. The bibliography contained a very recent top 5 publication which I was certain did not exist. This won't be the last time this happens.

article is very good but taking the opportunity to correct this - economics isn't called the dismal sciencne because it's pessimistic (or, as this paragraph suggests, because it's not useful) - it's because major 19th century economists were ardent opponents of slavery

14 days giving 14 talks spanning 5 countries. And I enjoyed every second of it! Experimental economics is in great hands with the rising youngsters. I will relay what I learned over the next several days. Two thoughts: first, you know that you are getting old when in every

Gino's case against us has been dismissed. Scientists cannot effectively sue other scientists for exposing fraud/errors in their work. Those who work to correct the scientific record can sleep better tonight. Those who don’t want it corrected, well, I don’t care how they sleep.

If I ever stop being a professor it will probably be because I can no longer withstand how many people doing research do not deeply care about trying to get the right answer.

One of my favorite things about academia is that you get to travel to all these conferences and hang out and have fun with amazing people from all over the world. One of my least favorite things is that once the conference is over you don’t seem them again for months or years…

I should randomly Tweet things about my amazing wife in honor of her abject masochism in sticking with me all these years. Did you know she had a bet with George RR Martin that she would finish her PhD before he finished Song of Ice and Fire? She finished her PhD in 2006.

The actual proposal is to have the govt as single purchaser who would compensate kidney donors, not to have an anything goes market. Matt knows this but thinks you're stupid and won't notice. He also just doesn't care that tens of thousands die every year from lack of kidneys.
