That’s a wrap on Epigenetics Boot Camp ColumbiaPublicHealth 🌟 Looking forward to incorporating epigentics into my work Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) of Mount Sinai We are interested in understanding associations of TBI with epigenetic changes - could this help us understand dementia risk after TBI?

In a recent JHTR online paper, BIRC faculty,Raj Kumar, PhD, along with Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems colleagues created an objective neighborhood socioeconomic status index, the TBIMS-NSDI This index may be used to study the influence of NEIGHBORHOOD on TBI outcomes in the TBIMS pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39110848

Controlling for genetic and environmental confounding, study revealed 21-41% of mental health conditions in Australia are attributable to child maltreatment. Over 1.8 million cases & 184,000 DALYs could be prevented if child maltreatment was eliminated. ja.ma/4cyHAij

📚Interesting new meta-analysis of anxiety incidence post TBI => 17.45% n=705,024. TBI patients 1.9 times as likely to have anxiety compared to non TBI group. TBI severity was not associated w anxiety. GAD => most common type of anxiety disorder post-TBI. bit.ly/3Ml2k25

Another great TBI article => Population‐based study of 18-49yr old w TBI (n=518423) vs controls (n=518 423). Stroke incidence rate per 1000 person‐yrs was 3.82-TBI vs 1.61-controls. Stroke risk approx 1.89 x as high in TBI. Stoke prevention 👉 priority. bit.ly/4dCWwgB

AMORIS cohort (n=585 279 adults) higher leukocytes, haptoglobin, CRP and lower IgG ➡️ elevated risk of any psychiatric dx. Analyses of trajectories - individuals w psychiatric dx had higher leukocytes and haptoglobin and lower IgG than controls up to 30yrs before diagnosis.

Depression and anxiety aren't single conditions. New research identifies 6 different biotypes that vary in brain circuit activation, symptoms, and reactions. Some respond better to therapy; others to medication. Mental health isn't one-size-fits-all. Neither are treatments.
