Probably time to just stop the Single Justice Procedure and call it out for what it is: A complete and utter failure. An effort to speed up justice where the system forgot the human beings behind the allegation. Forgot what it means to prosecute. What it means to criminalise.

The Renters' Rights Bill is about to gain Royal Assent. The Government has promised it will fix the private rental sector, but I've read through the Bill and worry that it risks harming the very renters it seeks to protect. 🧵

The Renters Act tribunal system is *insane*. 1⃣Any rent increase can be brought to tribunal. 2⃣No rent increase can occur until tribunal decides. 3⃣Tribunals are forbidden from saying rent should be higher than the Landlord. 4⃣ There are only *34* tribunal judges in the country.

What if there was a consensus on the tax reforms the UK needs? What if it was backed by policy experts from think tanks across the political spectrum, from the Adam Smith Institute to the Resolution Foundation? The consensus is real. The question is: will anyone act on it?
