Many people are puzzled about why the percentage of patients admitted to hospital with #COVID19 who have been vaccinated is going up rather than down. TLDR: this does NOT mean that vaccines don't work. Here's a Mk 2 version of our explanation! PDF at lindadykes.org/downloads

The great majority of adults have been vaccinated. Four weeks working on a COVID ward makes stark the reality that the majority of our hospitalised COVID patients are unvaccinated and regret delaying. Some are very sick including young adults. Please don't delay your vaccine.

NEW: there’s been a lot of chatter about why cases, hospitalisations and deaths are much higher in the UK than elsewhere in Western Europe. I think a lot of the commentary has been overly simplistic, politicised and at-times flat-out wrong. Let’s see if we can do better:

“If infected, someone who is unvaccinated is 32 times more likely to die of Covid than someone who has been vaccinated.”

Me in our ITU on 20th May 2020. I really hope the 25-strong team caring for me that day popped outside later to make the most of the glorious weather and had a few drinks together, especially seeing as they’d worked so hard. I mean…everyone would understand surely?

Sept 2020 Priti Patel said she’d call police to report neighbours holding parties. Today she’s defending Boris Johnson after he admitted doing just that. As Home Sec she’s responsible for upholding the rule of law for all. Not one rule for your mates & another for everyone else

Junior doctors' real terms pay has been *cut* by 26% since 2008. Nurses, paramedics & midwifes have all suffered real terms pay cuts. Oh, and we are already short of 100k staff in the NHS. It's patently obvious Liz Truss wants to destroy the NHS. theguardian.com/politics/2022/…

Junior doctors are overworked, undervalued and underpaid. Proud to support them on the picket line this morning outside Whittington Hospital. We support you in your fight to protect your patients, defend your profession, and save our NHS!

There’s a lot of confusion about junior doctors at the moment. Who are they? How much are they paid? Why are they striking? I’m a junior doctor, and thought I’d do a thread on the topic, so that people can link to it when someone spouts misinformation A 🧵

I’m an oncologist and I love my job. But I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing our patients with cancer and I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing its workforce. lucygossage.com/my-reasons-for… #ConsultantsStrike

A “hospital bed” is generally considered to be an allegorical term that also encompasses all the medical, nursing and allied professions required to provide a patient the care they need. The Secretary of State for Health has just gone on the IKEA website and ordered some beds.
