Excited about our latest preprint on recombination variation between species. We found a recurrent loss of crossover interference punctuating the recombination landscape in yeast. Great job from Abhishek and nice collaboration with Bertrand Llorente! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Very excited to share out recent work on Indian evolutionary history led by Elise Kerdoncuff & Laurits Skov. Many surprises (e.g., archaic ancestry in India) and some clarifications (e.g. source of Iranian-farmer ancestry related to Sarazm) and timing of OOA in India. More details👇

Interesting work by Sonja Billerbeck lab! The signal sequence of yeast killer toxin K2 confers producer self-protection and allows conversion into a modular toxin-antitoxin system biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

A bad take I have seen: Cancer rates are higher than they ever have been before because of our unnatural lifestyles. This is actually true, but the unnatural thing we are doing is not dying as much and that contributes to the leading risk factor for cancer -- Being older.

FYI Charlotte the stingray is not pregnant with shark rays (unfortunately impossible) but she is also not pregnant with clones of herself (also impossible) it's much weirder than that.

One more reason we need proteomics - to understand the impact of genetic diversity. The transcriptome alone does not provide a full enough pictures about gene expression differences. Great colleaboration with Joseph Schacherer 's team. More to follow soonish pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

Population-wide transcriptomes and proteomes reveal distinct genetic control of gene expression. Great work by Elie Teyssonniere and collaboration with Ralser Lab, Julia Muenzner, Pauline Trébulle. And much more to come on both levels of expression very soon… pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

Hi Friends, I'm excited to announce that I set up a crowdfunding campaign for my sugar selection system for antibiotic-free cloning! Finally formalizing this project; it's been a dream for too long now. Every penny counts; please RT! 💚🍬🦠 experiment.com/projects/towar…

Excited to finally see our paper on the yeast pan-transcriptome in Nature Genetics. Insight from 1,032 yeast transcriptomes emphasizes the essential contribution of accessory genes to transcriptional patterns at a species level. Many will remember heavy debates in the yeast aneuploidy field. Are excess proteins dosage compensated, and if, how? Are there general signatures of aneuploidy? These problems solve studying natural strains. Time's back to study wild species, Biologists! nature.com/articles/s4158…

Wow, since a brief tweet by Thomas Talhelm to promote our APS symposium gathered well over a million views in a day, I thought I’d respond to a few questions and comments about the task & the graph, both of which are a part of my PhD dissertation:
