Public meeting tonight to save Oldham Coliseum None of our MPs Debbie Abrahams Jim McMahon OBE MP Oldham Council or Arts Council England turned up. It’s clear new theatre proposed is not fit for purpose, too small, no rehearsal space, no fly stage, nowhere for community groups to use

No thought given by Oldham Council on who will operate a new theatre and Oldham Coliseum won’t exist by end of March if it is not saved so we won’t even have a theatre company to perform in it. Shame on Oldham Council for dragging its feet for 15 years.

Just reading about the plight of @oldhamcoliseum. When I was working with Bernard Cribbins on his autobiography he showed me this one day. He was 14 years old, worked every hour God sent, and loved every moment. He was proud to have worked there. I hope it can be saved.

As a BAME actor, I am very conscious of audiences, Oldham Coliseum is by far the must multi-cultural community I’ve performed for & the fact that it’s on the verge of closure makes me feel weak. This cannot happen to these pivotal places of art and culture in diverse communities!

BBC Radio 4 Today Martha Kearney Oldham is not getting a new theatre - the plan is for a ‘performance space’ with half the capacity than we currently have - it’s not good enough. The money needs to be spent on the existing theatre.
