This 1st winter Ring Ouzel was on the Leas mound and then flew north into Trow at 13:00. No bins or camera so a phone pic will have to do!

Managed to get to S.Shields Pier as the light was fading rapidly, but the Ross’s Gull was showing ridiculously well. Such a bonny little bird and a nice way to start the New Year!

The Ross’s Gull still hanging about on the Tyne this morning in front of the Customs House, before it took a jaunt up river to Jarrow.

Working in Somerset this week allowed a trip to see the Least Sandpiper at WWT Steart Marshes this afternoon. Showing reasonably well with a Little Stint for some company too!

Came across this apparent Black-Throated Diver x Great Northern Diver hybrid, whilst carrying out Black-Throated Diver surveys in the Scottish Highlands this week. It was present with three other Black-Throated Divers and a pretty striking individual!

Autumn is well underway on the east coast. 3 Pied Flycatcher the best of the bunch in Trow Quarry this morning, with 3 Blackcap, 2 Goldcrest, Whitethroat and a few Robins and Thrushes.

A single Pied Flycatcher in Trow Quarry at lunchtime today with a Willow Warbler and 3 Chiffchaff the only things of note there and 3 Little Stint at Boldon Flats this afternoon.

Not winning an award anytime soon with this, but pretty happy to get my first Leach’s Storm Petrel flying south past Walney Island, Cumbria, this afternoon.

After just over 3 hours of waiting and plenty flight views, the Pechora Pipit finally showed well enough for some half decent pics in Trow Quarry. A cracking find by Steve Egglestone , a full fat patch and life tick and made even better being my 300th UK ✅ too!

The Isabelline Wheatear showed well at Whitburn tonight, and the Red-breasted Fly was still on the Leas, but less confiding for photos and appeared to go to roost.

Nice to finally start seeing a push of migrants in Trow this morning with the overnight rain. A Lesser Whitethroat and Garden Warbler were about with an increase in thrushes, including 2 Song Thrush and 6 Blackbird, but still no Redwing…

The mist brought in a decent movement of birds in Trow this morning. First notable arrival of Thrushes with 3 Brambling. At least 511 Barnacle Geese over with 9 Wigeon in the hour or so I was there and a surprise Great Northern Diver circled overhead then flew inland.

A pretty sorry looking 1W Caspian Gull on the Tyne at Cemex, Jarrow. A noticeable individual with a bloodied head in the gull roost at lunchtime.

Trow turned up trumps again today with another Siberian sprite, in the form of this Pallas’s Warbler. Calling and showing very well on the ramp in the bowl- a good find by Barry. The other surprise was a Moorhen flushed from the bushes in the south bowl…

The Pallas’s Warbler was still present in Trow this morning, calling and even singing at times too. Also a decent supporting cast of 3 Yellow-browed Warbler, 3 Blackcap and a good handful of Goldcrest and Thrushes.
