Please consider taking on a stretch of waterway in Herts for this very rewarding survey. Read the thread for more info and follow the link. There are vacant sites near Tring, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and Cheshunt.

Our third #ExploreYourArchive theme is Big. The biggest collection in the BTO Archives is the maps produced during the Common Birds Census (1962-2000). There are roughly 250,000 maps from nearly 1,500 sites! These show important changes in UK bird populations. #EYABig

Great paper by Ken & Linda studying the movements of Herts Green Sandpipers and where they breed. Our wintering birds represent quite an international gathering!

Please help Graham and others with this important effort to monitor the status of Herts Swifts - and keep submitting complete BirdTrack lists too in order to monitor occurrence patterns. Some interesting comparisons here for Herts, Cambs, Essex & Kent for week 22.

Please help with this simple survey if you can. Only requires a 15 min period of garden observation each week. Important to monitor the spread and effect of this disease on our beloved Blackbirds, so please sign up!

Well done Graham for your part is pushing for these requirements in the StA local plans👏 Let’s hope they’re fully adopted for the sake of our Swifts👍

A big thank you to the Rye Meads Ringing Group who showed us another 10 Jack Snipe yesterday afternoon. They spoke about how not much is known their migration so hopefully ringing will help us learn. Once released one stuck around. Can you spot it? Let us know in the comments. #hertsbirds

Great to see Rye Meads featured with lovely account of Com Tern & B/H Gull breeding histories at the site. It would be great if regular observers at our other gull/tern sites (Stockers, Maple Lodge, Amwell and Hilfield) could sign up to SMP and submit data🙏 Thanks😊 @smp_seabird
