Yesterday, in our Scotonomics newsletter, I explained why the new Scottish administration must concentrate on building a resilient economy by prioritising energy & food sovereignty/security. Here's tiny wee Iceland getting ahead of the game re food. ft.pressreader.com/article/281646…

Did the obvious economic contradictions undermine Humza Yousaf's time as FM? We argued that he never really 'got' the economy, making only one major speech in his year as FM. We never had any response to our criticism here: thenational.scot/politics/24038…

These are financial assets £ or unearned benefits accruing to people, not for their work, but because they have excess cash. Over £150 billion was paid to the already wealthy in 3 years. This is the welfare we should be looking to reduce.

I did an interview with the largest Finnish newspaper: 'Economist warns Finland of consequences of harsh budget cuts. EU countries have shackled themselves with strict fiscal rules. This will dampen investment for decarbonisation and reduce EU's relevance in geopolitical context'

After last year’s heatflation comes this year’s sogflation.

There will be many more extreme weather events to come. We need a new kind of emergency economics to avoid erratic cycles of shocks and sellers’ inflation.

'The EU is the end destination for many supporters of indy. Scotland would likely enter as one of those high debt to GDP nations with a BoP deficit. EU membership *means austerity*. There is absolutely no doubt about this on the current rules.' ecb.europa.eu//press/economi…

This a very 'awkward' thread for any Scottish indy and EU membership fans. How the EU's return to the Stability and Growth Pact will further damage the idea of convergence.

Section 46 of the Scotland Act 1998 provides that the Parliament has 28 days from the date of resignation to select a nominee for appointment as First Minister. The clock is ticking.....

This is similar to the Tories claim 'they' reduced inflation. Always happy to claim credit for something not even remotely related to their involvement.

In total agreement. A year ago The National asked me to say one thing the new FM should do. I said step lead the party. But NOT the indy movement.

UK commentators are going to be totally befuddled in a couple of weeks when the next opinion poll comes out showing support for independence unchanged (or even strengthened). And still the penny won't drop.....

Very interesting Guardian article that has central to the story! Many people are deeply aware that the current narrative does not make sense & is clearly designed to support those with wealth. MMT explains and frames the economy.

Plenty of time to set up a new party before the next Scottish General election. Whenever that happens. A different type of party. I'd be up for that.
