My working theory is that people who write about education don’t understand politics and people who cover politics don’t understand schools. So we end up with a major story w/ profound implications for kids & democracy largely falling through the cracks

How long until Amazon is hiring doctors who can prescribe medication that one can buy right off the app and have shipped to their door? 🤔

Attended my first Math conference today. It was a great experience! Looking forward to helping math teachers at my site with instruction in 2024-2025!

I just found a pay stub from 2010 and it’s blowing my mind how much the dollar has degraded. That stub shows that I made less than half of what I make now, but my mortgage was the same back then as it is today, and somehow we were able to live off of one income.

If grading truly represents learning, then getting to an A (the height of learning) should always be a possibility.

If learning upward isn’t truly a possibility, then why are we grading?

Truly?

One of the many problems with the traditional percentage scale: A disproportionately large failure zone.

The typical F range is SIX TIMES larger than the A, B, C, and D range.

Why do we need 60 different ways to describe failure?

Once we come to terms w/ the idea that the traditional percentage scale has too many levels (101!) to be an accurate & reliable scale for measuring the quality of student learning, the next question is:
How many levels is ideal?

Here are 3 big ideas to keep in mind👇

THE. BOOK. IS. DONE!

There's a group of people who have the digital version to read. This made it feel so real for me.

We're closing in on the official launch, and I'm so excited.

(I promise I'll tell you the date when I'm given the green light.)

At times, school used to feel like comedy-hour: kids often trying to get a laugh out of others. Now, school often feels like apathy-hour: kids trying to prove how little they care about EVERYTHING. It’s draining.

The difference between high school and middle school on a rainy day:

High school…

Teaching online in the age of ChatGPT is pretty disheartening, y'all.

And I thought I had AI-proofed the discussions and assignments.

I was wrong. And now I'm sad. I need to re-think this whole thing.
