If you present yourself well, calmly, they don't think you're in as much pain as you say you're in. If you're visibly upset, crying, frantic, panicking, they say you're exaggerating for attention.

The amount of times I’ve been told “my neighbour has long covid/chronic fatigue and THEY can still work” or “my heart rate goes up sometimes too, but I still go for a hike” is astounding, judgemental, and insulting.

I have days that I get a pretty good amount done. Then I realize after the fact that I overdid it so much that I'm flat on my ass or in bed for most of the next day or three. A disability can sneak up on you like that, even if you already know this happens.
