I just had another "this sucks" moment shortly after developing a new mobile prototype. Users were supposed to be able to create named custom map locations which share what they're doing to people nearby. But what's to stop them from making locations somewhere dangerous or where

Still at a wall since my last post. I need to reevaluate how to get people to make friends nearby in a low friction way. But just arranging meetups is not enough to do that. People need to find people online who they can trust, and then see what's around them. I need to think.

There is something strikingly uncanny about the new Cracker Barrel. The old one was lovingly adorned with keepsakes and cherished memories like your dad's old bedroom at grandma's house. The new one showcases them like a science museum, like relics of a conquered culture.

“touch grass” isn’t great advice at a time when people are realizing their family members, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances are not on the same page about murder being wrong.

A couple of weeks ago I stalled in my development because I had a crisis of concept, so I took a pause to consider better ideas. After the past week though, I'm not even sure that I want to. The environment required for finding people and making new friends no longer exists.

The very unfortunate caveat with "touch grass" advice is that the Internet is actively cannibalizing meatspace Human attention is a zero-sum, the Internet is vacuuming it up, and now the old world is dead and gone You should probably still do it though

22% of millennials (supposedly) Have no friends and claim to be depressed. Reportedly having no friends is worse for your health than smoking 15 cigarettes a day and millennials are dying more than any other generation. Millennials are apparently getting cancer more, drinking
